Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 · Chapter XXII: Summary Trials

Section 287: Judgment in cases tried summarily

Earlier law: CrPC section 264 (Judgment in cases tried summarily)

In every case tried summarily in which the accused does not plead guilty, the Magistrate shall record the substance of the evidence and a judgment containing a brief statement of the reasons for the finding.

Corresponding sections were matched by comparing the wording of both official texts, and for the IPC and BNS, also against a published correspondence table. Wording, punishments and structure often changed, so read both sections before relying on the match.
