Nizam Uddin Laskar v. Gauhati University and Anr

¶1Heard Mr. M.H. Rajbarbhuiyan, learned counsel for the petitioner as well as Mr. P.J. Phukan, learned standing counsel, Gauhati University, for all the Page No.# 2/2 respondents.

¶2The case of the petitioner, in brief, is that as per his Aadhar Card, PAN Card and Passport, his name is recorded as "Nizam Uddin Laskar", S/o – "Khalilur Rahman Laskar". However, in his HSLC Examination, his name appeared as "Md. Nizam Uddin", S/o – "Khalilur Rahman" by dropping the surname "Laskar" in respect of the petitioner as well as his father. During his service as an Assistant Professor in the A.L. Choudhury College, Hailakandi, the petitioner had some unavoidable inconvenience because of dissimilarity of his name. Accordingly, he corrected his HSLC and HS Certificates through the proper Channel and thereafter, he approached the Registrar, Gauhati University wherefrom he passed his Master Degree held in the year 1996, for correction of his name as "Nizam Uddin Laskar", S/o – "Khalilur Rahman Laskar" by way of a representation dated 24.07.2023. It is the case of the petitioner that the Registrar, Gauhati University is yet to consider the representation made by the petitioner on 24.07.2023.

¶3Accordingly, this writ petition is disposed of directing the Registrar, Gauhati University to consider the representation made by the petitioner on 24.07.2023 and dispose of the same by a speaking order and in accordance with law within a period of 6 (six) weeks from the date of receipt of a certified copy of this order.

¶4With the above observations and directions, this writ petition is disposed of.
